WhatsApp beta 2.19.86 adds the ability to listen to consecutive voice messages, labels ‘frequently forwarded’ messages

WhatsApp is invincible when it comes to the vastness of its userbase. It clocked 1.5 billion monthly users last year and recently became the most popular app from Facebook Inc., overtaking the Facebook app itself. While WhatsApp initially began with the objective of instant messaging, voice has become an inseparable element in the app. The voice notes feature in WhatsApp can be incredibly helpful when you want to pass on a lot of information instantaneously or even in times of emergency while also ensuring that your message is preserved.

The feature may be a small part of WhatsApp’s messaging but it has not been neglected. Last year, the messenger received an option to lock voice note recording so you don’t have to hold the voice note button in case of long messages. Now, WhatsApp beta 2.19.86 enables automatically playing of voice note in consecutive order. This means that if you’ve received multiple voice notes from a single contact, WhatsApp will play these notes successively without making you press the play button for each message individually.

With this beta update, WhatsApp is also adding a feature called “Forwarding info”. Original senders will now be able to see the number of users who have received and read any message labeled “forwarded”. Furthermore, messages which are forwarded more than four times will now be labeled as “frequently forwarded”. Notably, the number of times a message can be forwarded is limited to five worldwide and this has been done to prevent the spread of fake news via the messenger.

Along with this feature, WhatsApp is testing an improved version of picture-in-picture (PiP) video playback. While earlier, WhatsApp would automatically close PiP videos upon switching to any chat other. Soon, WhatsApp might not only allow users to switch chats while playing a video in PiP mode but also continue playing the video when WhatsApp is minimized. This feature is not yet available to users, including beta testers.

Apart from these features, WhatsApp is working on a number of exciting features such as a dark mode, which uses darker hues to make the interface more soothing to the eyes, as well as support for fingerprint authentication to protect your chats on par with WhatsApp on iOS which allows users to use Face ID or Touch ID to protect their chats. Both of these features are currently being tested and not available to users.
