Honor 9X to launch in Europe with a different fingerprint placement

Huawei’s sub-brand Honor launched their latest mid-range headliners – the Honor 9X Pro and the regular Honor 9X – in July. The Honor 9X duo hasn’t been launched outside of China because of the US President Trump’s executive order that prohibits Huawei devices from running Google Play Services. In spite of the hurdles, Honor will launch the 9X and the 9X Pro outside of China but with a noticeable change with regards to the placement of the fingerprint scanner.

The Honor 9X’s leaks ahead of the launch suggested that the company might go for an in-display fingerprint scanner since the images did not depict a rear-mounted scanner. Honor, however, went for a power button that would double as a fingerprint scanner. The global variant, on the contrary, will allegedly have a physical fingerprint scanner placed on the back of the smartphone.

Based on the press renders leaked by Sudhanshu Ambhore, we can observe a physical fingerprint scanner on the back of the smartphone on the same horizontal line as the camera flash. Since the Honor 9X and the 9X Pro have completely identical designs, we can expect the latter to feature the same change in its design.

As for the question of Honor 9X launching regions other than China, the company had confirmed to Tech Advisor that the phone will be available in the UK and Europe. It is likely that the phone may not ship with Google Play Store installed but Ambhore says that the unit will come with Play Service pre-installed. This may have to be taken with a pinch of salt since Huawei’s premium device – the Mate 30 Pro – skips out on Play Services.

Irrespective of whether the phone comes with Google Play Services pre-installed or not, a few simple steps in this video will lead you to your desired destination. All you need is a single APK which manages the installation of the GMS suite on any Android phone.

Note: Huawei has stopped providing official bootloader unlock codes for its devices. Therefore, the bootloaders of their devices cannot be unlocked, which means that users cannot root or install custom ROMs.
