Oppo patents slider phone with extendable display

According to the latest smartphone patent from Oppo, a new smartphone design has come about. This design is reminiscent of the classic slider phone: a mobile device with a display that can be slip up along a track to reveal either a larger display or a set of buttons underneath. The latest patent marries the slider to a modern touchscreen smartphone. Rather than a smartphone that folds closed like the Galaxy Z Flip, the Oppo patent (filed back on February 27 2020) shows a smartphone with a square-size display. OnePlus 6 mod enables 70Hz screen refresh rate for smoother browsing

One of the hottest trends of 2019 and upcoming 2020 devices is high refresh rate displays. While Sharp had been playing around with such displays for a long time, Razer was the first OEM to put out a phone with a 120Hz LCD display in the western market. It didn’t immediately catch on, but other OEMs started slowly playing around with it, including ASUS. OnePlus was responsible for reviving the concept again with the OnePlus 7 Pro and its 90Hz AMOLED display , and ASUS released the ROG Phone II with a first-of-its-kind 120Hz AMOLED display. Since it was discovered that the Xiaomi Mi 9’s display could be overclocked to 84Hz , though, modders started digging around other devices to try to overclock their displays. Alongside the release of Android 8.0 Oreo, Google unveiled Project Treble : a major rearchitecting in the way the Android OS framework and the vendor HALs and Linux kernel communicate. Treble is a major initiative designed to reduce Android platform version and security patch fragmentation , and all Android-branded devices launching with Android Pie are required to support Project Treble. OEMs and vendors test Treble compatibility by booting a Generic System Image (GSI)—a pure stock build of Android from AOSP—and passing the Vendor Test Suite (VTS) and Compatibility Test Suite-on-Generic System Image (CTS-on-GSI). The GSI has proven useful in not only allowing software engineers working for OEMs test Treble compatibility, but it has also opened the door for a large custom ROM community on XDA.
