Pixel Experience for the Xiaomi POCO F1 and Redmi Note 5 Pro gets rebased on CAF

The Pixel Experience custom ROM is rather new compared to other ROMs within the developer community, but it has grown in popularity quite rapidly thanks to the desire of users to mimic the software experience of the Google Pixel. Since its inception, the custom ROM starts with an AOSP base but the developers have now rebased their work on CAF for the Xiaomi POCO F1 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro releases of the ROM.

For those who are unaware, CAF stands for the Code Aurora Forum and it’s where Qualcomm releases the source code for the kernel, public parts of the HALs, and framework branches, for their chipsets, among other things. In comparison, AOSP is directly from Google and will not include the necessary code to boot on Snapdragon chipsets. The developers of Pixel Experience state that the AOSP-based version will not stop being updated and in fact, it will still be the main source of the ROM. However, it will be up to the individual maintainers to make a build of the CAF version of Pixel Experience.

As for why you might be interested in the CAF version of the custom ROM, the developers claim that it will offer both “better performance and multi-tasking.” We can’t tell you if that’s true from our own experience, but give it a shot and let us know how well it works.
